Vermont Plank Flooring, a custom-wide plank flooring manufacturer, is seeking a skilled Lift Truck Driver to join our growing team in Brattleboro, VT.

Vermont Plank Flooring produces custom-made-to-order wide plank floors in a variety of domestic species and both solid and engineered plank structures. The company has a 30-year history of woodworking excellence. Our products are shipped all over the country and the world.

Position Summary

We are looking for a dedicated Material Handler to assist with the flow of our raw materials and finished goods. In this role, you will work directly alongside our Lead Material Handler (a 20-year veteran of the company) to organize the yard, feed the production lines, and safely store finished products.

Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday
  • 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Voluntary overtime is available.

Key Responsibilities

Unlike a standard warehouse job, this position requires precision and experience handling non-standard loads. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Material Handling: Operating a lift truck to move large lumber packs and finished flooring pallets. Note: You must be comfortable maneuvering packs up to 16ft long in tight spaces.
  • Team Collaboration: Assisting the Lead Handler in maintaining yard organization and executing inventory counts.
  • Production Support: Ensuring the mill machines are constantly fed with the correct raw materials to keep production running smoothly.
  • Shipping & Receiving: Working as a team to load and unload trucks, inspect incoming lumber for quality, and prepare finished orders for shipment.
  • Wood Identification: Learning to identify different wood species to ensure the correct material is pulled for each custom order.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous forklift/lift truck experience is required. Experience moving long loads (lumber, piping, steel beams) is highly preferred.
  • Wood Knowledge: Familiarity with domestic wood species (identifying Oak, Maple, Pine, etc.) is a major plus.
  • Reliability: We are looking for long-term availability. We value tenure and are looking for someone who wants to build a career here.
  • Physical Ability: While you will be driving, you must be able to lift at least 30 lbs (for strapping/unstrapping loads) and be willing to move around frequently.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to operate machinery safely and perform basic checks.
